I don’t know why, but I always have a thing for looking back at old concert photographs I’ve taken. I remember these days better than most any other day in the 21 years of my life. The people I hung out with, the random/special moments that take place, the band members and crew, the FOOD…I remember it all. I’ve made some lifelong friendships at these shows. As cheesy as it sounds, days like these will always have a special place in my heart.
I’ve been busy nonstop since the beginning of the year it seems and I just need a break. I’m going to start shooting for myself again (stoked!) and probably not doing any press/band shoots for a few months. Most of these are in my portfolio so you’ve probably seen some of them. I get asked a lot about when/where they were taken so here it is. A few of these are a few years old but everything recently just seems to blur together.
Captions are below the photographs.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - 2008: I think this was January 2008. The weather was horrible, tons of snow and ice. I ended up having to stay the night in Atlanta that night. I was so stressed going down there worried that I was going to have a wreck. It ended up being one of the most intense sets I’ve ever shot. I almost lost my head during some Dillinger stage dives! haha

Winds of Plague - 2008: This may have also been January 2008. I’m not positive. Either way, another FREEZING day/night. If you’ve ever been to The Muse in Nashville in the winter, you know people going outside to smoke makes it feel like below zero in there since the exit is actually right next to the stage. My camera was almost broken a few times because of random dudes running across the stage. (Pissed)

Job For A Cowboy / All Shall Perish / Annotations of an Autopsy - 2008: I think this was at the end of 2008 when the tour package came through my city. My decision to go was extremely last minute. A friend needed a ride to the show and I wound up shooting it. Big thanks to Bobby from JFAC for letting me snag a press pass. I got to see a ton of old friends at this show. Animosity was also on the bill, I had shot them a couple years prior so it was cool to see them again.

Between the Buried and Me - 2008: I think this is the correct year. I just can’t really keep up half the time. Tommy had emailed me a few months before and asked me if I wanted to shoot for their upcoming DVD. Of course I said yes. It turned out a good friend of mine was the other photographer for the show. It was an awesome day filled with new-friend-making and experiences that will last a life time. I ended up getting the cover which was pretty sick too.

Rose Funeral - 2009: For some reason, this is the only show in this post that I’m positive of the year. The day was extremely hectic. I had to photograph a friend’s wedding and then get to this show an hour away. Going to bed the night before I was pretty positive that something was going to go wrong. To my surprise, it was more or less the ideal day of shooting. Everything went smoothly. Wedding - changed in car - got to venue - hung out with some old friends in the band - shot promos - shot live - went home and crashed. I made some great friendships at this show.

Job For A Cowboy (again) - 2009: In short: Favorite venue. Favorite locals. Favorite city. Favorite friends. Favorite everything. This show was in Nashville, which is one of my favorite cities. Some of my best friends live there and luckily I had the chance to see a lot of them at this show. Again, I made some life long friendships at this show. Out of everything I’ve ever shot, I’m probably happiest with everything that happened on this day.

Between the Buried and Me (again) - 2010: Not much for this one, I had wanted to shoot the Bijou Theater here in Knoxville for years. Thanks to my dudes in BTBAM I finally had the chance to do so! I was sincerely pleased with this set.
Thanks for reading/viewing. I know I never really post here/answer questions. I’ll try to catch up on that…maybe…
I almost forgot what it was like to go out and take photos just because I wanted to take photos. It’s probably been close to a year since I have done that. I went up to my favorite place in the world yesterday (again). It’s been a favorite location of mine for several years. I used to go up here in the winter with one of my best friends and just hang out, freeze to death, look around. No matter where I’m from, I always miss this view.
This is huge and I’m not sure if you can view it full size. You can view it larger on my Flickr if not. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ericdalephotography/5116386971/

Thanks to my buddy Noah for accompanying me on this fun trip.

Here’s a digital piece I’ve been working on for a little bit. It’s 13” x 19”, printed on glossy press. I originally printed 20 and am not sure if I’ll print more after this. I have about 13ish left. Only $25 (plus shipping if you’re not in my area).
Send me an email (contact@ericdale.net) for payment info.

Well, it’s been a while since I have posted anything relevant here. I guess it’s time to do that. Here are a few random photographs from the past couple of weeks that I have shot for whomever. Unfortunately not a lot of behind the scenes stuff like I used to post when I first had a Tumblr. In the future!
